Fuzzy or Clear? A Computational Approach Towards Dynamic L2 Lexical-Semantic Representation

چکیده

In this paper, we present a computational approach to bilingual speakers’ non-native (L2) lexical-semantic representations. Specifically, based on detailed analyses of the error patterns shown in our previous simulation results ( Zhao and Li Int. J. Bilingual. Educ. Bilingual., 2010, 13, 505–524 ; Li, Bilingualism, 2013, 16, 288–303 ), aim at revealing underlying learning factors that may affect extent fuzzy category boundaries within bilinguals’ L2 representation. Here, first review models literature have focused simulating lexical representations, including Developmental Lexicon II (DevLex-II) model which current study is based. The DevLex-II modeling indicate strong age acquisition (AoA) effect: When early relative native language (L1), functionally distinct representations be established for both languages; when significantly delayed L1, occur due structural consolidation (or entrenchment ) L1 lexicon. Next, explore comprehension production DevLex-II. A novel contribution systematically compare with empirical findings. Such model-based extend findings by indicating, especially late condition, semantic emerge lead processing errors, errors unstable phonology-semantic semantic-phonemic mappings. provides account development representation reference dynamic interaction competition between two lexicons. Lexical is as lexical does: computational approaches to lexical representation

In much of neuroimaging and neuropsychology, regions of the brain have been associated with 'lexical representation', with little consideration as to what this cognitive construct actually denotes. Within current computational models of word recognition, there are a number of different approaches to the representation of lexical knowledge. Structural lexical representations, found in original t...

Pre-emption with or without Pre-task Planning: A Probe into L2 Lexical Diversity

The current study, setting a two-fold goal, attempted to see whether the preemptive focus on form (FonF) under either planned or unplanned conditions could contribute to increasing lexical diversity in written narratives and, second, to find whether there was a trade-off between the lexical diversity and accuracy. To this end, 32 beginner learners were selected following a Quick Oxford Placemen...

Towards Semantic Trajectory Data Analysis: A Conceptual and Computational Approach

Thanks to the rapid development of GPS mobile and wireless sensing technologies, the large-scale capture of evolving positioning data (so called trajectories) generated by moving objects has become technically and economically realistic. The data world becomes full of trajectories. The state-of-the-art on trajectory, either from the moving object database community or from the statistical analy...

Lexical Semantic Representation , and Argument Expression

Over the last twenty years aspectual notions have been increasingly appealed to in structuring verbal lexical semantic representations and, concomitantly, in formulating principles of argument expression. This move has been further fueled by the significant insights that have emerged from this line of research. Yet, despite the enthusiasm for aspectual notions that their proliferation demonstra...
